「大辞林」は、App Store での販売が30万本を超えるiPhone 用国語辞典のベストセラーです。洗練されたインターフェースが評価され、「グッドデザイン賞」と「電子出版アワード大賞」を受賞しています。

ベースとなる三省堂「スーパー大辞林3.0」は書籍版の「大辞林第三版」(8,190円)に約3万項目を追加した、約26万5千項目を収録しています。もちろん2,700点にのぼる図表もすべて含まれており、書籍の新しい版が出版されるまで不定期にアップデートされます。

「大辞林」では辞書を読む楽しみを iPhone 上で再現するために、様々な工夫が凝らされています。インデックス表示では iPhone のマルチタッチを活かした革新的なインターフェースが「言葉に出会う」楽しみをもたらしてくれます。また、解説の中に含まれる、知らない言葉、興味を引く言葉も指でなぞって選択するだけでジャンプすることができます。

解説文は物書堂オリジナルのレイアウトエンジンによって美しい縦組で表示されます。ピンチ操作で拡大表示すれば、難しい漢字も確実に確認することができます。

すべてのデータがインストールされるため、使用時にネットワーク接続が不要で通信費用もかかりません。

Daijirin dictionary is exquisite. Its also handy for just browsing around to find new words

An actual 国語辞典 for my iPhone! Dictionary is standard, interface is fabulous. This will be great for its target audience: native speakers and high level students. Any attempt to criticize this program will undoubtedly come from people who have no business using it.

Only for advanced student and native speakers. Regardless, anyone would be impressed with the interface. YouTube it and see for yourself. Man, it would be amazing if someone came out with a Japanese-English version of this.

Very creative and easy-to-use interface. I use it all the time. As another reviewer has said it is probably useful for advanced and native speakers of Japanese, but Im so glad they released this in U.S. App Store.

Navigation is absolutely brilliant with the index. Double tap returns you to prior place or you can use back button on top. Most of it is beyond my comprehension of Japanese but my wife (Japanese) loves it. However, I still like using it as everything is hyperlinked and I can understand the gist of it. I will mention one thing I would like changed. Zoom is very pretty you can make the letters gigantic and they stay clear just like a PDF would look zoomed in 400%. However, the zoom is useless pretty much as the text doesnt wrap at the bottom and thats a ton of up / down scrolling so as long as you dont zoom its hunky dory. In the settings you can change text size small, medium or large but wish the large text could go like 2 sizes larger. Half the data ~80MB consists of 2,700 images and the and the other ~60MB is text which is just an insane amount of information at your fingertips.

Sanseidōs answer to Iwanamis 広辞苑 Kōjien, Daijirin is a Japanese dictionary/encyclopedia of the highest caliber. Combine that with a sleek, elegant UI and handwriting recognition, and you have the most useful and well-made app I have ever seen on the iPhone.

Some bad moments

This is the slickest dictionary app Ive encountered in general and the most effective use of 3D Touch that Ive seen. This has the Super Daijirin dictionary, which is a great dictionary for Japanese->Japanese. Obviously you need to be able to read Japanese already for this to be useful to you since all the definitions are in Japanese. If you are an intermediate learner though its a good resource.

If you are able to handle Japanese-to-Japanese dictionaries, than this is the best one you can find in the entire App Store. The UI is very well-designed and helps a lot in discovering new words/phrases.
